In celebration of our nomination for Group Recording of the Year, we’re heading up to Charlottetown for the East Coast Music Awards this year. It’s quite a party!
First off, our own little idea that grew into so much more…
ECMA 2011 ALBUM COVER ART SHOW, Friday & Saturday April 15 & 16, 4-6PM @ MUSE artspace, 211 Euston Street: Ever wanted to see the original pieces of art from your favourite East Coast musicians’ album covers? Here’s your chance! Click here for Article from Charlottetown’s the BUZZ entertainment paper.
The art will be on display Friday afternoon & all day Saturday.
Acoustic performances both days from 4-6pm, featuring: Acres and Acres, Tanya Davis, The Caravan, Rose Cousins, Jenn Grant, Steve Gates, Jon McKiel, Gianna Lauren, Ria Mae, Christina Martin, Olympic Symphonium and others.
Kris and I put this showcase together and we can’t believe the lineup we are presenting. The whole idea came from the fact that while we were recording All Nations, we commissioned 4 wonderful painters to paint whatever inspired them as they sat in the balcony of the church. The resulting paintings were put together to form the artwork for the album. This beautiful and necessary collaboration between the two mediums is the theme that inspires this show.
We will also be appearing in these lovely events:
Spincount Suitecase, Friday April 15th at 8:30pm: This is a cool acoustic showcase put on by SpinCount, an East Coast Promotions Company specializing in Radio. It’s all happening in “The Club” adjacent to the main Lobby of the Delta Hotel. The showcase will run from 5-11pm Friday & 5-8pm Saturday.
Forward Music Nocase, Saturday, April 16th, 12:00pm @ Back Alley Records: Forward Music is an awesome label out of new Brunswick run by some of our favourite folks. They put together an awesome lineup for this intimate record store show.
The “In the Dead of Winter” festival has featured us the last two years in Halifax and this year they’re sending us to Wakefield, Quebec (near Ottawa). We’ll be kicking off a full evening of music, followed by our good friend David Myles, and finally, Oh Susannah. We’ll be taking the train there & performing on board as well. Can’t wait!
The East Coast Music Association recently nominated our first & only album All Nations for Group Recording of the year. We’re pleased as punch.
Hey folks, It’s a brand new year and I want to share an amazing video that my good friend Steve Gates of Caledonia passed on to me. Maybe it just struck me the right way at the right time, but I think this is as important a truth as I’ve ever heard. It’s a TED talk, and if you haven’t heard of a TED talk then take some time to look around after watching the video. Enjoy & let us know what you think. Power of Vulnerability
Best wishes to all of you. I hope you all got a good turkey/tofurky nap. I was going to suggest that they add Tryptophan to veggie turkeys to make the experience more like eating turkey but then I actually looked it up & according to my buddy the internet, it’s probably the carbs that make you sleepy so I guess the vegetarians among us don’t need to worry about missing out on the lovely post christmas dinner sleepiness after all. I’ve been working on my first Christmas tune over the last few days. Hopefully I’ll be sharing it with you all next Christmas. See you in 2011!
We’re very excited to be playing this great venue. Mike & Mike have done some great things to make this an exceptional listening room. We’ll be playing with a 5 piece band and Owen Steel will be playing an opening set. Seating is limited so we recommend calling the Carleton to reserve a table soon. 9pm, $10
We join our old friend Jenn Grant for fun times this Thursday. Doors at 8pm, $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
We’re lucky enough to be playing two events this year. There is so much going on!
Thursday evening from 7-9 we’ll be at Argyle Fine art playing music to accompany the art of Nick Brunt and the fashion of Orphanage Clothing. Stright up acoustic duo stuff. Check out the facebook page or the website.
Friday we join some wonderful talent for a band show at the Company House. The lineup goes like this: 8pm – Acres and Acres, 9pm – The Wilderness of Manitoba, 10pm – Christina Martin, 11pm – Erin Costello.
